A notification of move block

A notification of move block or moving protection is an important measure to ensure that no one can make a move notification on your behalf, especially when your personal data is at risk of falling into the wrong hands. It is recommended that you file a security report immediately if you suspect your data has been stolen. An electronic move notification always requires logging in and strong identification with bank credentials, and it is not possible only with stolen personal data.

On the website of the Digital and Population Information Agency, you can also report if an additional resident, for example, a former partner, is registered in your apartment. Report the removal of a resident using the online form on the website of the Digital and Population Information Agency.

A light moving ban

A light moving ban restricts making a move notification using a paper form but still enables an electronic change, either by oneself or by another person, e.g., a partner.

Moving protection, on the other hand, prevents the notification of moving both on a paper form and electronically. If your personal data, bank ID, or other strong identification data have been compromised, it is recommended that migration protection be requested. You will always receive confirmation of the move protection, and once it is activated, you will be contacted before the new move notice comes into force.

If your personal data has been stolen, a light moving ban prevents moving notifications made on paper form. In this case, the change of address can only be done electronically in the OmaPosti service or with strong identification on the muuttoilmoitus.fi page. Please remember that light moving protection allows you to make a moving notification only electronically, for example by a partner. Notices of moving made on a paper form will not go through, and you can unblock this easily in OmaPosti or when logged in on Posti's website.

You can easily activate Light Moving Protection online or at OmaPosti, and it takes effect immediately:

Blocking a notification of moving

Blocking the notification of moving is intended for persons whose information has been misused to submit a moving notification or who fear such misuse. Usually, in this situation, the person has lost their identity document or it has been stolen, and a criminal complaint has possibly been filed.

The block of notification of move service affects the fact that your notification of move cannot be processed until you deactivate the block. The service can be requested by a full-fledged and adult person for themselves, a guardian for their principal, a single parent for their child, guardians together for their child in joint custody, and a minor aged 15–17 for themselves. In the case of a minor child, the guardians must make the request in person, and the request must be accompanied by the consent of the other guardian and the minor if the child is 15–17 years old.

You can use the block the notification of the move service in the Suomi.fi online service with strong identification using bank credentials or a mobile certificate. The service can also be deactivated in the same service. Don't forget to make a similar move protection for Posti at posti.fi.

If you use the block the move notification service, you can submit a move notification electronically or with a form only after you have removed the move notification block. You can follow the processing of your move notice in the Suomi.fi web service from the address information tab.
