Specialised therapy services in cases of domestic violence

Unfortunately, we are not yet aware of any centralised contact points in Germany where victims of domestic violence or perpetrators of violence can receive targeted therapeutic support.

General therapy services

Be it your own way of dealing with the relationship, your own thoughts or emotional patterns, behaviour or helplessness. With the help of psychotherapy, you can find support in dealing with these issues in the long term - alone, in a group or in your partnership. There are various types of therapy available.

You can reach the health insurance patient service on 116 117 (available around the clock). They can help you find an appointment at a psychotherapy practice, for example. Within a week, you will be given an appointment for an initial psychotherapeutic consultation, which will take place within the following four weeks. Please bear in mind that in Germany there can sometimes be very long waiting times for therapy (following the initial consultation).

You can find out more about this, including the different types of therapy, here.

Psychotherapy and Trauma therapy

Experiencing violence can make a person feel weak, unlovable and overwhelmed. Traumatising events can severely impair the quality of life and lead to nightmares and increased emotional stress.

Psychotherapy and trauma therapy (specialised psychotherapy) can help you regain inner strength, emotional stability and independence. However, getting a therapy place in Germany is often associated with long waiting times and requires some organisational preparation. Nevertheless, it is worth the effort! Keep at it, even if it seems long and arduous. Here you will find some contact points: Information and trauma therapy help for those affected by traumatic events (German Society for Psychotraumatology)
