  1. Trauma-based reasons behind violence. Psychological trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that can have long-lasting effects on a person’s mental and emotional well-being. While not everyone who experiences trauma will go on to engage in violent behavior, there is a clear link between the two. In this article, we will explore some of the ways in which trauma can lead to violence.
  2. Barriers to overcome for survivors. We’ve learned about many of these barriers from our interviews and working with survivors. We introduced social media series where we showcased some of these obstacles so others could better understand why it is so difficult to speak out and gave examples how other survivors overcame those barriers.
  3. I realized the amount of lying and hiding I was doing to others and finally to myself — Domestic Violence Survivor Maria (name changed). As a single mother who was raised by a single mother, I lied to myself that the best thing to do was to keep my emotional and physical abuser around because my children deserved the chance of having a father, and I could help him over time become that. Of course I was wrong. It took me a long time to discover that I faked most my life to others but most importantly to myself.
  4. I had to pretend everything was great — Domestic Violence Survivor Story. This is a survivor story of Grace (name changed). After years of psychological abuse, she realised she was in a violent relationship by reading posts about abuse on social media.
  5. Why it’s important to address the healing support of perpetrators as well. When it comes to addressing domestic violence, it is important to focus not only on the victims, but also on the perpetrators. By providing support and healing to perpetrators of domestic violence, we can help to break the cycle of abuse and prevent further harm to victims.
  6. Employers play a key role in breaking the taboo around domestic violence — Guest blog by Kati Hernesniemi. Domestic abuse is a serious problem that touches the whole of society. Internationally, victims of domestic abuse use 30%-100% more social and health services than the rest of the population. It is surprisingly often the real reason behind sick leave.
