Exercise: Only a miracle would help me!

Imagine that tonight, while you are sleeping, a miracle happens. Your problems disappear. But because you are asleep, you do not know that the miracle has happened. When you wake up in the morning, you don’t know that a miracle has occurred, but your problems are gone.

  • What is the first thing you notice?
  • What are things like now?
  • How does it feel?
  • Do others notice that a miracle has happened too?
  • How do they notice it?

If you answer that something (for example anxiety, fear, exhaustion, hurry, or violence) is gone, look at what has taken its place.

  • What do you do when violence, conflict, or anxiety is no longer present?
  • What happens when worry fades away?
  • What is your first step toward that?

Focus only on what you yourself can influence. You cannot influence the violence you have experienced. You are not responsible for another person’s behavior. You can only help yourself.

When you become clear about what you want, create an action plan to reach your goal. Visualize the miracle and stay with it for a while. You are worthy of achieving it, and if you promise yourself to act toward it, keep that promise — you are worthy of that too. Take very small steps, one at a time, and start today. Have a good journey.
